D-Day

D-day was the biggest American Invasion of all time.  Launched on the 6th of June 1944, D-Day was a cross channel invasion designed by the Allies to liberate Northwest Europe from Nazi control in World War II. Eisenhower, the Supreme allied Commander, planned most of Operation Overlord from offices near Grosvenor Square in London.  Prior to D-Day, the most successful cross channel invasion had been William the Conqueror’s in 1066 which is commemorated in the Bayeux tapestry.  D-Day also helped eventually launch Ike to the Presidency.
